In conclusion...

After a hectic three weeks which has included a major deadline, Tyler and myself have managed to complete the final animation viewable below.

I am very happy with the outcome. It shows obvious progression from the original idea but maintains the wit and charm which make this project successful.

I have enjoyed working in a team, especially towards the end when the deadline was drawing closer as we managed to work together to be able to say, firstly, we had finished and secondly, we have designed and animated a successful project.

Final week

We have spent another couple of hours in the basement this morning and we hope by the end of play today that our animation will be a highly finished and  polished version of the original idea.

Having found an entire catalogue of new images and adding in scenes and quirky elements, the idea has grown in to what will be a successful answer to the brief. Check back in a few hours to see how it all ends up!

Final animation scenes

These are the 2 main scenes from our final animation. We composed them in Photoshop using images only found online through various image based search engines.

There is an obvious progression from the original idea and we are confident of a very successful and amusing outcome, ready to present on Thursday.

Slug emotions...

Just messing around in illustrator, I have created a series of cartoon slugs. Each slug has a different emotion using only the eyes. This shows how we can give our slug more character and emotion within the animation.

Friday 13th!

Today, Tyler and I sat in the basement suite working away on our final animation. We managed to source and treat all the visual and audio files and compiled the first 5 seconds.

I am looking forward to the end product, as I know Tyler is also, as we have created a very interesting visual style with many elements to capture the imagination of our target audience.

We hope to have everything completed by Monday ready to show on Thursday.

Expressions

The slug character in the lil test animations seems to lacking some character so I am gonna look into expressions and obvious, simple visual representation.

This should add some life to the wee fella and hopefully progress the animation for the better and nearing completion.

Chris Cunningham

Chris Cunnigham came up in a previous tutorial so I have
been having a look at some of his work. This example is just
a collection of some of his work but it is clear to see some
techniques and the importance of quality audio matching to the video.

Rotascope movie

Found this movie which uses rotascope within a stop-frame movie.
It's only simple but is an effective technique.

Found Image Idea

Using images found online I created this quick movie to show how this visual style could work!

Storyboard Animation

The video that has been uploaded isn't displaying the video correctly. Some frames are missing out but the general idea can be seen. A few extra sketches/scenes are needed I think to make the animation as quick as the audio.

Edited Sound

Managed to download the video from youtube, convert it to MP3 then using audacity slice the audio i needed and change the order of whats said to fit the animation better.

Creature Comforts

Create comforts use sound clips that already exist and then create the animation. This is a technique we plan to do, using a sound clip from a talk radio show.

Test Animation

Quick test animation made in Aftereffects. Just to get a idea of how the trails will work.

Images made for test animation of the slug in action.

South Park is great example of completely flat animation. Creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone met whilst students and created a similar short animated clip for a project.

The show's style of animation was inspired by the paper cut-out cartoons made by Terry Gilliam for Monty Python's Flying Circus. Construction paper and traditional stop motion cut-out animation techniques were used in the original animated shorts and in the pilot episode made for Comedy Central.

Incubus - Drive

A great example of animation within a video.

The inspiration for our movie clip.
